Greg Edwards Breaks Track Record on “Opening Night” at Langley Speedway

Greg Edwards qualified to start first during time trials Saturday night with a record breaking 16.256 (seconds) lap time. Edwards set the track record last year on opening night at Langley Speedway with a lap time of 16.342. This year followed suit - including the night’s outcome.

The Crossroads Fuel Late Model’s were at the start just around 12:25 am. With so many special events through out the evening, it was a late start for Late Model Division. They were schedule to run last and what a spectacular grand finale.

Langley allowed each division to start “straight up” in the order they qualified. This allowed Greg to start on the pole for Saturday nights 75 Lap Race. On the start, Greg shot out front and kept the lead. He managed to stay out front even after many re-starts due to the seven cautions of the night.

With only five laps to go, it was the eighth caution of the night when Greg’s 27 Dodge Charger starting smoking from the hood as he made his way through turn one. Greg brought it around to the pit area as his team tried to evaluate the damage. It was a blown radiator hose and no time to make the repairs. After leading 70 of the 75 laps tonight, it was a disappointing 10th place finish for Greg and his team.

Just last year on opening night, Greg broke the track record during qualifying and ended the night with an ignition failure after leading 67 laps of the race. The 27 crew has spent endless nights the past several months to get the 27 ready for the season but it looks like there are still a few “kinks” to work out. It’s back to the shop this week for the team and they will be ready for next Saturday Night’s race.
