Podium Finish for Greg Edwards at Langley Speedway

Greg Edwards qualified to start second during time trials Saturday night with a 16.443 (seconds) lap time. The Crossroads Fuel Late Model’s went green for their 100 lap race and the 27 of Greg Edwards and the 40 of Mark Wertz would go side by side across the start and until just out of turn one, the 27 slide up the track tapping the outside wall. With sparks flying, Edwards was able to correct the slide and bring it back down as they entered turn two but loosing position to fourth. By lap four, Edwards was making his way to the front. He rode side-by-side with his brother Danny driving the 26. Just as he made an attempt to clear the 26, a caution came out putting him back in fourth on the restart.

On lap 44, Greg made his way past his brother to take third, and by lap 48, he took second. Twenty laps later, he made his way past the leader Mark Wertz in the 40 car and ran in first until lap 93. On the 93rd lap, Casey Wyatt in the 29 car came under the 27 in turn four and stayed out front for the remaining seven laps. The 27 was running with right side tires from the previous race which already had over 70 laps on them and with tonight’s 100 lapper, the worn-out tires just couldn’t Greg back out front.

Greg wanted tonight’s victory more than ever. He wanted to dedicate his win to his friend Steve Forrest who passed away just yesterday morning. In loving memory of Steve, Greg will try again for the victory when racing continues May 13th.
