Victory for Greg Edwards at Langley Speedway

Greg Edwards qualified 5th for tonight’s USG Night Race in the Crossroads Fuel Late Model Division. The car just wasn’t where they wanted it for qualifying and with only one Crew Member (Dave Jones) and his Crew Chief (John McMasters) he was fit to be tied trying to figure out why his car just didn’t feel right in qualifying. Now with so many rule changes for the cars this season, it’s a little harder to tell what needs to be done. There’s no exact data from last year to compare too. After all the checks and talk about changes, they decided to leave it “as-is” and make a go at it with what they had; it definitely paid off later in the race.

With 18 cars to start for tonight’s 75 Lap race, Greg took off on the start to make his way up the line. On the first lap, he passed the #21 of Anthony Warren for 4th and closed the gap on the #29 of Casey Wyatt for 3rd. By lap 4, Greg passed the #29 car and road in 3rd place until lap 30 when he passed his brother Danny Edwards in the #26 for 2nd.

With #40 Mark Wertz in the lead, Greg stayed just behind Wertz for the next 22 laps to try and save his tires for the remainder of the race. On lap 52, Greg made his move on the #40 car and rode side-by-side for one lap until he cleared Wertz just going into lap 53. Greg passed under the #40 and then shot out front. With only 5 laps to go, Jeff Shiflett in the #01 car battled it out with Wertz for 2nd. As they battled side-by-side, Greg kept a steady lead by a straight-a-way. Wertz held off Shiflett and finish 2nd as Greg took the Victory.

Greg dedicates his Victory to his life Long friend Steve Forrest who passed away just weeks ago.
