Back-to-Back WINS for Greg Edwards at Langley Speedway
Greg Edwards qualified 2nd for tonight’s Crossroads Fuel Late Model Race until the “wheel spin” to determine the starting position. The wheel was spun and landed on “6”, inverting the field and starting Greg in the 5th position.
On the start of tonight’s 75-lap race, the car count was 23! This was exciting for the late model driver’s because that would give them an additional 20 NASCAR bonus points for the first time this season. Unfortunately, as the light went green, there was a 10-car pile up on the outside coming out of the first turn. Greg and his brother Danny were on the inside and made their way safely through the crash without a scratch.
After clearing the track, the officials moved the outside line up and they were ready to start again. Greg was running 4th with his brother just in front of him until lap 21 when Greg’s brother Danny (in the 26) took on the 48 of Shawn Balluzzo for 2nd. Danny passed the 48 and Greg stayed on his brother bumper-bumper as they both passed the 48 putting Greg now in 3rd. Danny and Greg were now on the pursuit to catch up with 34 car of Paul Debolt who lead the race thus far by half a straight-a-way.
It was on lap 34 when Danny and Greg started to catch the 34 car of Paul Debolt and Danny stayed nose to tail with him until lap 56 when he ducked under the 34 to take the first position. Greg still running 3rd for one more lap until he too ducked under the 34 for 2nd. After Greg took 2nd, he made his way to the bumper of his brother and on lap 63, Greg passed his brother for 1st. Greg ran the lead for the remainder of the race and took himself to Victory Lane once again.
It was an exciting night for Edwards Motorsports as the Edwards Brother’s came in with back-to-back victories for Greg and a one-two punch for the team as Danny Edwards, Jr. finished 2nd. Greg’s victory tonight also gave him the edge he needed in points. With a rough start so far this year, Greg had finished 10th in the season opener and 2nd place in the 2nd race, putting him from 10th to a 3rd and 4th place tie with the #21 of Anthony Warren. Now with back-to-back victories, Greg is standing proudly 1st in points!
Many thanks to Frank from Mark Friedman’s Custom Jewelers in Yorktown, VA for the “victory gift” - custom made, 14-karat gold earrings were presented to Greg in “Dale Lemond’s Victory Lane” as a gift for his significant other.
