Edwards Brother’s Still Leading Track Points at Langley Speedway

The Crossroads Fuels Late Model’s qualified for Tonight’s 100 Lap Race sponsored by Bud Select. Danny Edwards was the second fastest qualifier as Brother Greg fell in right behind him.

After the wheel spin of eight, both brothers were inverted for the start in their Dodge Chargers. Greg’s line was moved up, putting him sixth to start while Danny stayed in seventh.

Danny shot ahead as Greg hung to the outside trying to find his way to the inside. By the second lap, Danny made his way to fifth as Greg ducked in behind the No. 40 of Mark Wertz for seventh. Five laps later and Danny was making his way up to fourth as he brought Wertz and his brother with him. The three of them dropped in one by one.

By lap 19, Danny was at it again. He was making his way through the pack one-by-one. Mark and Greg stayed with Danny once more for the pass. By lap 30, Mark decided to break the chain as he passed Danny and Greg stayed in tow. As they both made their way past the No. 26, Greg was now in fourth as his brother Danny kept right on him in fifth.

With only four laps to go for the half way mark, the black flag came out as Greg made his way out of turn 4. The caution flag was out as Greg made his way to Official waiting for him just beyond the flag stand. It was Greg’s car that spit fluid in turn four. He pulled the car into the pits as his crew ran out to jack up the rear. They checked underneath to find that the rear-end inspection plug had blown out. The crew ran from the 27-pit box to the 26-pit box feverishly looking for the replacement plug. With no luck, they started looking for anything they could find that would stop up the hole. Greg was spitting bullets by now as his crew frantically scavenged the boxes. Just as the flagman gave the one-to-go, Troy Hutchenson of the No. 53 and his crew came to the rescue. They pulled the plug from the parked 53 car. Greg’s crew ran to the 27, plugged the rear-end and dropped the car. As the flag went green, Greg’s crew was just finishing up but didn’t quite make it in time for the lap. The Late Model’s completed lap 47 and were making their way into lap 48 as Greg flew out of the pits to fall in behind the pack. Lap 48 was never completed. On the restart, another caution flew as the No. 7 of Dude Gibbs was crushed into the wall at turn 4.

The scoring board reverted back to lap 47 for the restart. Greg was put back to eleventh for the restart, and a lap down. Danny was still hanging on to fifth as the flag went green. Greg pushed forward trying to make up his lost lap as Danny tried to hold off the No. 01 of Jeff Shiflett.

On lap 60, Danny was passed by Shiflett in turn 2 as Greg was passing the No. 8 of Jeff Sampson on the outside in turn 3. Danny held his fifth position until it was 20 laps to go. On lap 80, Danny made his way under the No. 40 of Mark Wertz in turn 4. The two battled it out side-by-side but Danny never cleared him in the lap due to another caution. The No. 26 fell in behind the No. 40 for the restart for ten more laps. With 10 laps to go, Danny nosed his 26 under the 40 in turn 3 and by turn 2, the 26 slipped in front of the 40.

With five laps to go, there was another caution. With less than 10 laps to go, Langley puts the lap cars to the rear of the field. This became a little confusing for Greg because he was still trying to find out if was one or two laps down. He called in on his radio for his crew to find an official to give him his restart position. They confirmed Greg to start eight on the restart.

Danny grabbed a podium finish, finishing third as Greg’s finish was jaded to eighth. With Danny’s third place finish, he made up the points difference between him and brother Greg and passed Greg in tracks points by two points. The Edwards brother’s are still first and second in (official) track points!
