Dodge’s Dominated the Podium and Track Points Once Again at Langley Speedway
During Time Trials, Greg Edwards qualified second and Danny Edwards qualified third. After the wheel spin of zero, both brothers held their original qualifying spots for the start in tonight’s Crossroads Fuels/Miss Utility 75 Lap Race.
Just before the Late Model race, Langley Speedway and the world famous Zambelli Fireworks Internationale came together for a magical fireworks show in celebration of Independence Day. The lights went out and the fireworks were shot off just beyond turn 3 and the just over top the track. The crowd was in a roar with cheers as they waved their flags and watched with amazement. With a Grand Finale that lit up the sky in bright vibrant colors and the thunder of the “boom” shacking the grand stands, this was the best fireworks show ever at Langley Speedway!
Just after the extraordinary fireworks show, the Late Model Driver’s were ready to go! On the start, Greg was on the outside of the No. 40 Mark Wertz. As they entered the first turn, Greg ducked in behind Wertz to avoid the wreck in turn 2. After the first caution of the night, the cars were lined up side-by-side for a complete restart of the race. Mark and Greg stayed side-by side for the first lap and just as they entered the second lap and the first turn, Greg ducked in between Mark and his brother Danny for second.
The three Dodge’s barreled ahead nose-to-tail as they made a half-straightaway gap between them and the remaining 18-car field. On lap 14, the caution flag came out for the second caution of the night. Back under green and the Dodge’s were at it again. They started to pull away from the rest of the field but it was only two laps later when the third caution was out once again.
The three Dodge’s stayed out front in the same order as they qualified and the started the race. The last caution would come out with only 30 laps to go. Mark, Greg and Danny were back in formation as they made their way through 30 caution-free final laps. One by one, the Dodge’s crossed the finish line in the same order they started.
1-2-3 for Dodge’s! Greg and Danny took their Dodge’s to the Podium as Mark Wertz took his 40-car once around for his victory lap. The race finished with Mark 1st, Greg 2nd and Danny 3rd. The Dodge’s still hold the top three positions in track points –Greg, Danny, Mark!
With a two points lead on his brother, Greg now leads the (official) track points with 452 and is now tied for points with his brother Danny who also has 452. The brothers trade positions once again this week but Mark Wertz is only two points behind them with 450 track points. The Late Model Division has ten races down and thirteen to go before the Divisional Championship deadline on October 1st.
It was certainly an exciting night of racing and we congratulate Mark Wertz on his win!
